Watch Before You Jump

I was driving my car, got to a roundabout and in front of me was a lady. She
took the curve and swerved to my side of the road. We could have had a collision, but I managed to avoid being hit by her. She then turned to me and shouted “Dog! Dog!” I got very angry saying: “She ran into my side of the road and here she is calling me a dog.” Being upset, I shouted back at her saying “Pig! Pig!” As I took the roundabout, I ran into a dog. All the while, she was not insulting me, but warning me that there was a dog nearby, and that’s why she swerved. In my mind, I thought she was insulting me. I was so wrong.

The way we see things will determine how we respond. The way we see life will determine the way we respond to life. The way we see people or money or time or possessions will determine the way we respond to them. The way we see the scriptures will determine how we respond to it.

Our perspective can easily be flawed. Luke 16v14-15: “The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all of this and were scoffing at Jesus. So He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is prized among men is detestable before God.” There are some things that we are chasing which are not in God’s perspective and can be detestable in His sight.

“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” So what do we need to do? We need to cultivate the habit of seeing the way God sees – the divine perspective!
